Fusing is a technique by which two or more pieces of glass are melted together upon the application of heat. Another technique within fusing is thermo-shaping, which consists of giving form to the glass through heat. Both techniques require the use of a 900°C kiln. After designing a piece, the necessary bits of glass are cut and placed onto a metal or heat-resistant ceramic mold. Heat makes the glass melt, allowing it to take the shape of the mold. |

Fire enameling is a painting technique which is painted onto glass using translucent enamels. By heating up the pieces to a certain temperature the enamel melts and essentially becomes part of the glass.

Tiffany is a modern technique in stained-glass craft. From a design, the pieces are cut out of glass, the edges are covered with copper tape and welded together using lead and tin alloy. This technique allows for the use of smaller more intricate pieces of glass, and therefore it is ideal for lamps and other decorative items. |
